Grunwald Gallery of Art

The Grunwald Gallery of Art is home to contemporary works by both professional and student artists. Exhibits incorporate art from a variety of contemporary genres and approaches, and can be experimental or traditional.

The Grunwald Gallery frequently collaborates with artists, scientists, and scholars to produce exhibits that interpret visual art in a broader scientific or humanities context.

Exhibitions at the Grunwald Gallery

Exhibitions at the Grunwald Gallery incorporate art from a variety of contemporary genres and approaches, and can be experimental or traditional. All exhibitions are free and open to the public.

The gallery is located in the Fine Arts Building, 1201 E Seventh St, Bloomington, Indiana 47405. Gallery hours are Tuesday–Saturday, 12–4 p.m. (Closed Sunday and Monday)

The Grunwald Gallery presents "Radical Jewelry Makeover: Midwest Edition", an exhibition featuring responsibly sourced jewelry created by students from five different Midwest universities and colleges—along with professional jewelers from Chicago’s Gallery 2052.

The Grunwald Gallery at Indiana University Bloomington is pleased to present the Spring 2024 BFA Thesis Exhibition. This show will feature work created by graduating Bachelor of Fine Arts students in the Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture + Design at Indiana University.

John A. Grunwald

The Grunwald Gallery of Art was named in honor of IU alumnus John A. Grunwald in 2011. Born in Hungary in 1935, Grunwald survived the Holocaust and came to the United States in 1950. Grunwald graduated in 1956 with a degree in economics from IU, where he met his wife Rita. The Grunwalds were deeply interested in art and frequented studio art gallery openings and events. Rita Grunwald also worked in the Fine Arts Bookshop for nearly 25 years.

Grunwald Gallery of Art programs highlight the diversity of practice and heightened creativity present in exhibits of the work of student, emerging, and established artists. The Grunwald Gallery provides important professional training for hundreds of students, and your funds go directly to exhibit expenses and student employment costs. Funds also assist with furthering the educational mission of the Grunwald Gallery though publications and research in contemporary art.
