The Indiana University Center for Art and Design Columbus (IUCA+D) opened on October 31, 2011. Formed in partnership with the Community Education Coalition of Columbus to establish a center in downtown Columbus, it specializes in teaching the integration of art and design.
IUCA+D is host to the School of Art, Architecture and Design’s newest degree programs: a brand-new Master of Architecture coming in fall of 2018, and a B.S. in Comprehensive Design. The M.Arch. degree will be developed in collaboration with the Columbus community, including the Columbus Indiana Architectural Archives and the Institute for Coalition Building of the Columbus Education Coalition. The B.S. in Comprehensive Design will have the residential component of its curriculum in Columbus, IN at IUCA+D. Additionally, upper-level courses in the School of Art, Architecture and Design utilize IUCA+D for Columbus-based art and design projects.
IUCA+D Columbus is housed within the “Sears Block” of the former Commons Mall, located on the northwest corner of 3rd and Jackson streets. The center occupies approximately 7,000 square feet with a design studio, a gallery for art and design exhibitions, a workroom, faculty and administration offices, and a technology support lab.
