Interweaving discussions of vision, perception, and identity, Giannell’s works operate as expansive fields recording time, labor, and physicality utilizing haptic processes within the language of abstraction. In 2019, exploring imprisonment and displacement, Giannell was selected as an Artist in Residence with the Marek Maria Pienkowski Foundation in Poland, and also as the inaugural Artist is Residence with the Alabama Prison Arts + Education Project collaborating with incarcerated individuals on physical/ephemeral interconnection and spatial infinity.
Exhibited nationally and internationally, Giannell’s work has been included in institutions such as Manifest Creative Research Gallery and Drawing Center in OH, Sense Gallery in D.C., McColl Center for Art + Innovation, Goodyear Arts, and Gaston College in NC, Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art, Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts, and Spring Hill College in AL, as well as Galeria Pieńków in Poland.
