Mary Embry is a Senior Lecturer of Merchandising, focusing on sustainability, fair trade, and product development, and the Director of Undergraduate Studies for the Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture + Design. Having won a Trustees Teaching Award in 2016, Professor Embry is a specialist in service learning, information literacy, international consciousness, and integrative learning that spans from making to the marketplace. As the Founding Director of the Center for Innovative Merchandising, she bridges curriculum and practice, directing high impact student programs that build skills in creative and entrepreneurial leadership. Professor Embry is also a fair trade activist who regularly gives guest lectures and contributes to several organizations both on-campus and off, including the Office of Sustainability, the Advocate for Community Engagement program, Fair Trade Bloomington, and the Fair Trade Communities national steering committee. Her work on fair trade has taken her to the Dominican Republic, Uganda, Kenya, China, and Ecuador; in the summer of 2016 she led a group of IU students and Bloomington community members interested in fair trade to Guatemala.
