design:retail has announced that the 2019 winner of the 23rd Annual Markopoulos Award is Dan Evans, managing partner and executive vice president marketing and business development for Wests Designs.

Each year, design:retail presents one industry professional with the Markopoulos Award, one of the industry’s most prestigious honors, which is named after the late visual merchandising legend Andrew Markopoulos, and recognizes outstanding achievement and contributions in visual merchandising and store design.

Nominations for the award are open to anyone in the industry, based on the following criteria:

• Lifetime achievement, overall accomplishments, awards and recognitions
• Providing innovation and inspiration for the industry and others
• Contributing to the success of a particular retailer or company
• Nurturing/mentoring the next generation
• Contribution to, participation in and support of the retail design and visual industries
• Admirable role model: professionally, personally

The winner is determined by a vote of past winners—The Markopoulos Circle—including: Ignaz Gorischek, Tony Mancini, Judy Bell, James Mansour, Linda Fargo, Chuck Luckenbill, Simon Doonan, Christine Belich, James Damian, Michael Cape, Jack Hruska, Alfredo Paredes, Ralph Pucci, Tom Beebe, Denny Gerdeman, Eric Feigenbaum, Joseph Feczko, Harry Cunningham, Ken Smart, Bill Goddu, Linda Lombardi and Anne Kong.

This year’s Markopoulos Award winner, Dan Evans, will be profiled in the May issue of design:retail magazine. He will be recognized during the design:retail HONORS event, to be held 6:30 p.m.-9:30 p.m. on Monday, May 20, at The Gallery at Dream Downtown during New York Market Week Spring (May 20-22). The event also will feature an awards ceremony for design:retail’s 40 Under 40 winners, bringing together the industry’s most promising future leaders alongside the highest regarded visionaries. To attend design:retail HONORS, register at designretailonline.com/honors.
