The Eskenazi School offers a variety of part-time job opportunities—below are descriptions for these various positions. These opportunities are available on a regular basis but may not always have openings. Current openings will be listed on our Careers/Opportunities page.

Research Assistant

Job Description: Assist with a wide range of responsibilities surrounding the support of academic research. This support could be specific to a grant, or it could be general assistance for a faculty member’s continuing research or creative activity. The purpose of this position is to enhance research productivity. Responsibilities could include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Provide online research support.
  • Copyedit manuscripts, grant proposals, and other documents.
  • Provide skilled technical support through equipment, materials, and processes.
  • Other duties as needed

Qualifications: Ability to work independently. Strong judgment and communication skills. Time management skills. Willingness to learn new skills as needed.

Schedule: Part-time. Hours range from 1-28.9 hours per week, depending on need.

Work Location: Bloomington, IN and Columbus, IN depending on program.

Salary Range: $10.15-$15.00 depending on level of responsibility and experience.

Undergraduate Teaching Assistant

Job Description: (UTAs) are integral to the teaching mission of many areas of the Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture + Design, supporting faculty in implementing instruction, as well as providing valuable academic training and experience to high-achieving undergraduate students that can help prepare them for future careers. 

For both UTAs and UTINs within a given program responsibilities can include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Leading small group discussions
  • Serving as peer tutors
  • Conducting review sessions
  • Holding office hours
  • Helping students with activities and assignments during class
  • Review of course work where appropriate/supervised

*UTAs assist with, and/or provide instruction in, courses offered through the College or its schools, departments, or programs.

*UTAs cannot assign grades by themselves, but they can assist in the grading work under the supervision of the course’s instructor of record as long as it is completely objective work, such as True/False or Multiple-choice style questions. UTAs may never be a course’s instructor of record.

*UTAs who have direct student interaction through instructional activities – discussion sections, tutoring, exam proctoring, study sessions, etc. – must be regularly observed by the instructor of record for the course to which they are assigned, the coordinator of the unit’s UTP, or an appropriately-trained Associate Instructor.

Qualifications: Current IU student who has completed the course in which they'll assist, and completed the course with a high grade.

Schedule: Part-time. Typical schedule is between 5-10 hours per week.

Studio/Class/Shop Technician

Job Description: This position supports the daily operations of a studio/class/shop as it relates to equipment, safety, materials, inventory, rentals, and questions regarding the facility. This position can have a wide range of responsibilities which can include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Equipment/Tools/Material management
    • Restocking and inventory
    • Check-out procedures for equipment rentals
    • Provide assistance to students or faculty in these spaces
  • Ensure safety protocols are followed with the use of equipment/tool/materials
    • Including COVID protocols for safety ensuring students/faculty/visitors are complying with IU safety protocols (wearing masks, social distancing, among others)
  • Serve as a resource for questions
  • Other duties as needed

Area/Program Assistant

Job Description: Provide general administrative support to an area/program, which can include but is not limited to the following:

  • Purchasing assistance
  • Answer student questions
  • Inventory for area supplies
  • BEX billing for student purchases
  • Assist faculty with administrative tasks
  • Assist with technology related issues
  • Equipment management
  • Assist with guest speaking events
  • Other duties as needed

Gallery Assistant

Job Description: This position supports the needs of the gallery. Responsibilities for this position can include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Handle, install and deinstall contemporary artwork for exhibitions including paintings, sculptures, metalwork, photography, video, film, ceramics, graphic design work and site-specific works, including sculptural environments and sound, lighting and interactive works.
  • Assist with transport, delivery, packing and handling of artwork.
  • Attend evening and after-hours events, tours and presentations.
  • Provide technical support for digital, video, sound, and other media during exhibits.
  • Provide technical and maintenance support for gallery physical space.
  • Serve as gallery attendant during open hours.
  • Other duties as needed

Studio Art Model

Job Description: Models will report directly to the instructor of the course/session in which they have been selected to pose. Successful models must possess ability to create a variety of poses as directed by the instructor. Modeling sessions are scheduled at the discretion of the instructor based on the needs of studio art courses.  Other responsibilities include:

  • Applicants must be comfortable performing as a live model, often sitting for up to three hours at a time.
  • Ability to pose clothed or unclothed* (only for those that indicate they are willing to pose unclothed).
  • Ability to hold a variety of poses, including standing poses, without movement, for varied durations; and/or sequential poses when instructed

*Current students who major or minor in the Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture + Design may not be hired as an unclothed model, however they may be hired as a clothed model.

Qualifications: Ability to work a flexible schedule, to work assigned schedule, including evenings and weekends, and to arrive on time. Ability to appropriately, sensitively, and professionally interact with instructors and students. Preference given to those who have previous experience modeling.

Schedule: Part-time. 0-29 hours per week depending on need.

Salary Range: $15.00

Sales Clerk

Job Description: This position supports the general needs of the Bookshop. Responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to the following: Cashering, customer assistance, stocking, greeting, maintaining organized sales area, and other duties as needed.

Qualifications: Dependability is a must, some art and/or retail experience preferred.

Schedule: 7-15 hours per week

Work Location: Bloomington, IN

Salary Range: $10.50-$12.00 depending on level of responsibility and experience.
